The Richtersveld is a mountainous desert located in the north-west corner of South Africa, with the highest diversity of succulent plants in the world – 4 849 species of which1 940 are endemic). Famous for its eerie coastal mists, alluvial diamonds and truly indigenous cultures. To its west is the cold and rough Atlantic Ocean while the largest river in South Africa (the Orange) winds along its northern border. The trail (Northern Cape Namakwa 4×4 Eco Trail) offers both challenge and reward – the challenging Northern Cape isolated mountains semi-desert and the testing dunes, and the rewarding thrills, awesome scenery and cultural interactions. The trail runs from Pella to Alexander Bay.
